Authentic Misal Pav


Hey  everyone, for sunday special we brought an “Authentic Misal Pav”.

 Authentic  Misal Pav


Sprouted Moth / Matki – 2 cup

Onion -1 finely chopped

Tomato -1 finely chopped

Garlic – 1 tbsp finely chopped

Oil – 2 tbsp

Asafoetida – pinch

Mustard seeds- 1 tsp

Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

Goda Masala Powder- 2 tsp

Red chilli powder – 2 tsp

Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp

Coriander Powder – 1.5 tsp

Salt to taste

Water -5-6 glasses

Coriander Leaves

For Tarri / Spicy Gravy

Oil-1.5 tsp

Red Chilli Powder- 1 tbsp

Salt – 1/2 tsp

Water – 2-3 Tbsp

For Serving

Misal Chivda

Onion finely chopped

Tomato finely chopped

coriander leaves chopped



In a wok add 2 tbsp oil, when it is hot enough then add in heeng / asafoetida, mustard  seeds, cumin / jeera.

Now add chopped garlic and cook till light brown in colour.Then add chopped onion and cook it also till light brown colour.Add in chopped tomato, cook till tomatoes are soft.

Add 1/4 cup of water and red chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder & salt.Cook it well for 3-4 min.

Now add Moth into it then add lot of water, Misal is supposed to be watery in consistency.So for this minimum 5-6 glasses of water would be sufficient.

Add in Maharashtrian Goda Masala powder.Give it a good time for boiling around 15-20 min.Final garnishing will be done by coriander leaves.

An Authentic Misal is incomplete without Tarri / spicy gravy. For this heat oil then add red chilli powder and immediately add 2-3 tbsp of water and give a good stir.Then add salt , cook it for couple of minutes. Then Tarri is ready to go with misal pav.

It is very important  that how we serve misal, so firstly we add special misal Chivda into the bottom of a bowl. Then add thick sprouts ,around 1 cup then watery sprouts misal,fill the bowl with this, then again add Chivda ,chopped onion, chopped  tomato ,coriander leaves.Finally present with a slice of lemon and Ladi Pav. Enjoyyyy

* you can use any sprouted beans for this recipe like moong, chana etc.
