Kantola / Kikoda / Teasel Gourd


Today we have brought a vegetable recipe from Rajasthan to all of you, which is cooked and eaten in Rajasthan very often.

Kikoda is also known as sweet Karela.

Benefits of Teasel Gourd / Kikoda / Kantola :

*  It contains phytochemicals, proteins, anti oxidants, memoranditions, and fibers. And all these properties prevent cancer, cardiovascular disease.

This vegetable can be consumed by people of all ages.

Kantola / Kikoda / Teasel Gourd


250 gm – Kikoda

2 tbsp – Oil

Pinch of Asafoetida

1 Tsp – Cumin Seeds

4-5 Pods- Chopped Garlic

2 – Green Chillies Chopped

Salt per Taste

1.5 Tsp- Red chilli powder

1/4 tsp -Turmeric


First you wash & pet dry Kantola .

Now cut the top & bottom part of it, and slice them thinly ( you can refer this process to our video )

In a pan heat oil then add asafoetida, then crackle some cumin seeds.

Now add and saute garlic , when garlic turned light brown in colour then fry some green chillies.

Finally add teasel gourd / kikoda and fry for some time.

Sprinkle some salt and turmeric and mix well.

Now cover this pan with a lid, but check and stir sabji or vegetable in between.

When it gets tender then only sprinkle some red chilli powder and mix evenly.

It is ready to be served with chapati , paratha.
