We are back with Prabhu Jagannath Temple’s most famous prasad or Odisha’s staple food “Dalma”  . This recipe I have tasted at my friend’s place, on the spot I decided One day I will prepare and will share the recipe with all. It is very nutritious because it’s having a lot of vegetables which are very good for everyone. It is a complete meal you can say. Dalma

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 Cup – Tuvar Daal / Pigeon Peas or lentil
  2. 1/2 Cup – Green Moong Daal / Green Gram
  3. 1 Chopped- Potato
  4. 1 Chopped – Raw Banana
  5. 6 Chopped- Brinjal
  6. 1/2 Cup – Yam Chopped
  7. 1/2 Cup – Pumpkin Chopped
  8. 1/2 Cup – Grated Coconut
  9. 2 slit – Green Chillies
  10. 1 Tsp- Grated Ginger
  11. Salt to Taste
  12. 1/2 Tsp –Turmeric
  13. 1 Tsp – Coriander Powder
  14. Coriander Leaves
  15. Water as Required

Phodni or For Tempering

  1. 1 Tsp – Ghee ( Optional )
  2. Pinch – Asafoetida
  3. 1/2 Tsp – Fenugreek Seeds
  4. 1 Tsp – Fennel Seeds
  5. 1 Tsp – Nigella Seeds or Kalonji Seeds
  6. 1 Tsp- Cumin Seeds
  7. 3-4 – Dry Red Chillies
  8. 1 Tsp- Mustard Seeds

Process

Roast both daals ( tuvar & moong ) in a pan. Roast for just 2-3 minutes or daals get aromatic then switch off flame.And transfer daal into a bowl. When these are cool down then wash them properly.Keep it aside.

Heat ghee in the pan add asafoetida, fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, nigella or kalonji seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds & dry red chillies. Now fry for some time then transfer into a bowl. And when it is cool down then transfer into a mortar pestle and crush them. Do not make fine powder. keep it aside.

Take a pressure cooker and add daals, potato, banana, brinjal, yam, pumpkin, coconut, green chillies, ginger. Then add turmeric & salt.Add in water ,here we have added about 2-3 glasses.You can adjust consistency according to your wish.Close cooker lid and take 2-3 whistles then let it cool down completely.

Now open cooker and add coriander powder and crushed tempering ,stir well and boil it for 1-2 minutes. Add in coriander leaves and serve it with rice. So friends Odisha style Dalma is ready to be served. Enjoyyyy 🙂

You can choose vegetables according to your taste.
